A 2004 PORSCHE CAYENNE????

Nice Touregg, but if you like mainstream SUV’s rebadged for more luxury and prestige, the Lexus LX470 is a lot better.
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:18 |

But it’s a Porsche!
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:19 |

Sure you can get an old V6 automatic one for peanuts. But why would anyone
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:19 |

If it’s anything like the current-gen one my parents have, they’re amazing SUVs. Not quite a Range Rover, but the next best thing, probably.
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:21 |

IT’S THE WRONG ONE
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:22 |
|
Those aren’t bad, they just suffer from ass face.
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:23 |
|
Nearly as unreliable as a Range Rover but a lot uglier.
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:23 |
|
Hey now, we may not agree with their lifestyle, but sadomasochists need cars too.
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:25 |
|
It’s a VW
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:26 |
|
AH YEAH. I ADORE these. I was in a Turbo S a while ago and the owner caned it all the time, which made me rethink the laws of physics.
They aren’t THAT unreliable, but you have to maintain them properly.
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:26 |

A Touareg isn’t hideous like the Cayenne.
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:26 |

SHUT UP
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:28 |
|
NOPE
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:29 |

Get an ‘05 or newer Lexus GX470 and set aside some cash for if/when the air suspension breaks.

![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:32 |
|
Yes, it is hideous. That is a face only a mother could love, barely.
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:35 |
|
They’re damn good SUVs, and a bit more reliable than the Rover. ONLY a bit, but still.
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:37 |

I don’t think the first gen Cayenne has aged well.
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:37 |

![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:40 |
|
I can’t hear you over the awesomeness
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:41 |
|
If you think it’s ugly on the outside, try looking at that steering wheel every day.
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:44 |
|
Just buy yourself a box of explosives and put wheels on it.
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:44 |
|
If you count the Horn icons, there are ten buttons on that steering wheel.
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:47 |
|
Make sure to get a Turbo S. If it's unreliable already or requires high maintenance, why not go all the way. Boost BOost BOOst BOOSt BOOST ALL THE WAY
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:50 |
|
The base Cayenne with the V6 is a dog. Handles amazing for an SUV though. A friend of mine had a Turbo S, and the only problem he ever had was a wheel bearing.
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:55 |
|
Do you have to have an SUV?
![]() 08/23/2015 at 14:55 |
|
Totally wrong. What you want is this:
A VW Touraeg. With a twin turbodiesel V10. 309 bhp, 553 lb-ft of torque. It can tow a 747. That is all.

And even worse... a VW mostly built in Slovakia. The only thing they install in Germany is the interior, some trim and do the final inspection there.
![]() 08/23/2015 at 15:06 |
|
The Land Cruiser/LX is 1000x better
![]() 08/23/2015 at 15:08 |
|
You’re hardly an unbiased source.
![]() 08/23/2015 at 15:13 |
|
Instead... Get a VW Touareg... with either the W12 or the V10 TDI.
The love/hate relationship should be even stronger with that one.
![]() 08/23/2015 at 15:17 |
|
What do you own now?
![]() 08/23/2015 at 15:22 |
|
Maybe not, but all you need to do is ask RR owners that didn’t buy the extended warranty, and Doug DeMuro, who has most likely been blacklisted from Carmax :p
![]() 08/23/2015 at 15:39 |
|
But about $15,000 for a nice used 100 series
![]() 08/23/2015 at 15:40 |
|
If you really want to continue in this direction, you can save a lot of hassle but still simulate owning a Range Rover: at random intervals an Opponaut will come disable your current car until you pay an arbitrary but substantial bill, then wait a variable amount of time until your car is made driveable again.

I didn’t say they were more reliable, just better SUVs.
![]() 08/23/2015 at 16:12 |
|
I came here to say get the TDI. Not that I have any experience with them, but seems like a super formula if the vw diesels don’t suffer from the same vw reliability issues.

I predict the V10 TDI’s fuel economy won’t be much better than the gas V6 and most of the savings will be blown away by the higher cost of diesel in the US. On top of that, it’s a low-volume engine, so parts/service will be more difficult.
Also... the V10 has 2 electric fuel pumps, 2 MAFs, 2 EGR systems, 2 throttle bodies and 2 turbochargers. And it takes 11 liters of premium oil with every oil change.
I predict the love and hate will be extreme... as it would be for the W12, but just in a different way.

Holy shit - the answer just smacked me in the face.
P H A E T O N

Also, did anyone say Pontiac GTO 6M? Or a G8?
![]() 08/23/2015 at 19:45 |

If you like fast SUVs that are surprisingly capable off road (but not to Land Rover levels) and look like jellybeans on wheels, the Cayenne isn’t a terrible choice.
But I'd choose a Range Rover every time.

Not ment for you PS9, kinja fucked up
![]() 08/23/2015 at 22:24 |

What do you own now?
![]() 08/23/2015 at 23:21 |

I've been in a handful of cool cars including a Gallardo and a ZR1. However nothing has ever impressed me more than when we took a 2010 Cayenne around a small autocross. So much power. So much flat cornering. So awesome

I hope my previous snarky comment didn’t offend. I totally get the desire for a car where the wanting overwhelms the common sense. I’ve indulged it many times.
Plus, these days I’m lusting after a Jag XK-R, and how reliable could that POSSIBLY be?

buy the Range Rover.
STAT!
